The two-week volleyball Talent Camp held in Navakholo Sub-County has successfully concluded, marking a significant achievement in the development of young athletes from the region. This camp brought together 40 promising players—20 girls and 20 boys, all under the age of 20—who had the opportunity to refine their skills under the expert guidance of seasoned coaches: Sammy Kirongo, Azenga Mavisi, John Ogara, and Emma Kondoa. Organized in collaboration with the Kenya Academy of Sports, the camp aimed to foster talent, enhance technical abilities, and instill essential values like discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
During the camp, each coach led focused sessions on key volleyball skills, including serving, spiking, blocking, positioning, and team tactics. Participants showed remarkable improvement, with noticeable gains in both their individual techniques and on-court communication. The atmosphere was filled with energy and enthusiasm as the athletes demonstrated a strong commitment to learning and growing in the sport.

At the camp’s closing ceremony, CPA John Ogara, representing the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF), delivered a message from KVF President Charles Nyaberi. In his remarks, he expressed sincere gratitude to the Kenya Academy of Sports for facilitating the camp and pledged ongoing collaboration to support emerging volleyball talent. He also announced that several standout participants have been named to the provisional U-16 and U-20 national squads, a great recognition of their hard work and potential.
Hon. Were, the MCA for the area, stood in for MP Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe, expressing the MP’s appreciation for the Kenya Academy of Sports’ sponsorship of the camp. Mr. Wekesa Busuru, standing in for the CEO of the Kenya Academy of Sports, joined dignitaries and coaches in celebrating the camp’s success. He encouraged the athletes to continue striving for excellence, emphasizing that the camp’s conclusion is only the beginning of their volleyball journey.
The athletes themselves expressed heartfelt gratitude for the training they had received, acknowledging the positive impact the camp had on their volleyball abilities. Many of them requested that similar camps be held in the future to help them continue developing and reach even greater heights in their sporting journeys.
As the camp concluded, we at the Kenya Academy of Sports are proud of the progress made by these talented young athletes. Their dedication, paired with expert coaching, has set them on a promising path toward becoming the next generation of volleyball stars. We remain committed to promoting youth development through sports and providing more opportunities for emerging talent across Kenya.
