📍 Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi
📅 August 6–8, 2025
The Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) successfully hosted the inaugural Career Fair & Symposium, a landmark event that brought together thousands of participants from across East and Central Africa to explore the vast and evolving world of sports careers. With the theme “Exploring Diverse Careers in Sports,” the event spotlighted the many professional pathways available within the sports ecosystem—far beyond the playing field.
A Dual Experience: Symposium & Expo
The Symposium
The symposium featured compelling presentations and panel discussions led by top sports officials, global experts, and key stakeholders. Topics ranged from policy and governance to innovation, inclusion, and the economic potential of sports. Speakers such as Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi, CBS, and representatives from the Kenya National Examinations Council, Special Olympics Kenya, Moving the Goal Post, and the Kenya Academy of Sports shared insights that challenged conventional thinking and inspired attendees to pursue impactful careers in sports.
The sessions were enriched by contributions from seasoned coaches, athletes, and administrators including Bernard Ouma, Patrick Sang, Grace Adhiambo, William Maithya, and Dorcas Amakobe. Their perspectives emphasized the importance of aligning sports education with national curriculum frameworks, particularly within the Competency-Based Education (CBE) model. Discussions also highlighted the need for effective assessment mechanisms in physical education and the integration of sports into broader education and development agendas.

Live demonstrations added energy and engagement to the symposium. The Jump Rope Federation, led by Lydia Aswani, showcased technical skill and athleticism, while Edward Murimi’s football juggling and Tong-ill-Modoo self-defense techniques offered dynamic examples of discipline and innovation in sport.
One of the most inspiring moments came from Stellar Tiyoy, a wheelchair basketball athlete who was a part of the Kenya Academy of Sports December Camp. Her story of resilience and inclusion resonated deeply with participants and underscored the transformative power of sport.
The Expo
Running parallel to the symposium, the expo offered a hands-on, interactive experience. Booths from national federations, sports organizations, and educational institutions showcased real-world opportunities and resources. The Kenya Academy of Sports anchored the expo with a vibrant presence, while specialized booths provided guidance on niche careers including:
- Sports Law
- Sports Psychology

Attendees engaged directly with recruiters, mentors, and industry professionals, gaining practical knowledge and networking opportunities to help launch or advance their careers.
