The 2024 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games in Bukedea, Uganda, have been a showcase of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. As we reached Matchday 4 on Wednesday, August 21st, Team Kenya continued to display their prowess across various disciplines, solidifying their position as a formidable force in the region.
Soccer
Our soccer teams delivered impressive performances. In the Boys’ category, Highway Secondary triumphed over Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania with a 2-0 win, while Musingu High secured a commanding 4-0 victory against Kalangalala from Tanzania. St. Joseph’s Kitale played a tight match, finishing in a goalless draw against Bukedea Comprehensive of Uganda.
In the Girls’ category, St. Joseph’s Girls, JOGA, outplayed Tanzanite of Tanzania with a 2-0 score, and Butere Girls mirrored that result against Rines Secondary of Uganda.
Volleyball
In Boys’ Volleyball, Kenya had mixed results. While Bukedea Comprehensive of Uganda edged out Hospital Hill 3-0, Namwela, Cheptil, and Kiaguthu secured wins against Bugobwa (Tanzania), St. Augustine (Uganda), and GSOB Butare (Rwanda) respectively. The Girls’ teams performed admirably, with Kwanthanze defeating Seroma CHS (Uganda) 3-0 and Lugulu Girls winning 3-1 against GS St. Aloys (Rwanda).
Basketball
Kenya’s Basketball teams also showcased their strength. The Boys’ 5×5 game between Dr. Aggrey and Laiser Hill was postponed due to unfavorable weather, while the Girls’ 5×5 saw Buruburu Girls win by forfeiture against Orkeeswa (Tanzania). Butere Girls outscored Buddo SS (Uganda) 61-42, although Kaya Tiwi fell to St. Noa (Uganda) 62-46.
In 3×3 Basketball, the Boys’ matches saw a close contest with Sawagongo narrowly defeating St. Joseph’s Boys 13-12, while FS Kamusinga emerged victorious against Kibuli SS (Uganda). The Girls’ teams had similar success, with Butere Girls and St. Joseph’s Girls, JOGA, winning their matches.
Handball
Handball results were mixed for Kenya. The Boys’ teams faced stiff competition, with Kimilili Boys narrowly losing to Wampewo (Uganda) 20-23 and Saniak Secondary falling to Bombo Army (Uganda) 22-24. However, Hospital Hill managed a hard-fought 24-24 draw against Mbogo Mixed (Uganda). On the Girls’ side, Moi Girls Kamusinga secured a 20-16 win against Kawanda SS (Uganda).
Netball
Kenya’s Netball teams put up a brave fight, with Andersen Secondary falling just short against Lutozo SS (Tanzania) 31-33 and Bumala AC losing to St. Mary’s Kitende (Uganda) 25-49.
Hockey
In Boys’ Hockey, Kenya dominated with Musingu High defeating Arusha Meru (Tanzania) 2-0, and St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale outplaying Kyadondo SS (Uganda) 3-1. The Girls’ teams were equally successful, with Nyamira Girls and Tigoi Girls both claiming victories.
Rugby
Rugby matches were full of intensity. In the Boys’ 15s, All Saints won against Namilyango College (Uganda) 13-7, while Kitondo SS secured a 24-11 victory over Kings College Buddo (Uganda). Meanwhile, St. Mary’s Yala faced a narrow defeat in Rugby 7s against Jinja SS (Uganda), finishing 5-10.
As the 21st edition of the FEASSSA Games continues, Team Kenya remains focused and determined to bring home more victories. With the finals just around the corner, the passion and energy displayed by these young athletes promise an exciting finish to the games.
